Benjamin's Cars & Trucks Birthday Party

We recently celebrated Benjamin's 2nd birthday party. It was super fun. Ben chose the theme -- cars and trucks. We incorporated it with a few simple touches, and otherwise enjoyed a casual pool/BBQ party in my in-laws backyard.
I know I've told you the weather has been pretty lousy here lately (see this post). But on this lovely Sunday afternoon we had nothing but blue skies and sunshine.
I'll let the photos share the party for me. My mother-in-law is a great gardener and did a beautiful job setting everything up.

(For more party pics and details, click "read more". Warning that there are a lot of photos!).

We had food set up in various spaces around the yard. My mother-in-law got black tablecloths and used tape to make them look like roads. It was really cute.
Hot days call for lots of beverage options. We made sure guests had lots of wines, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from.
And of course there were kid-friendly snacks everywhere. She used trucks as serving bowls, which I thought was really cute.
Instead of spending a fortune on car themed plates, etc., she chose red yellow and green to act as a stoplight on the "road" table that displayed the cake. And she made the cake! What a great grandmother :)
We all had such a blast. It was so nice, with a brand new baby, to just relax and enjoy the day with Benjamin. I am so grateful to my in-laws for handling the logistics, decorating, and delicious food!
Benjamin loved it. I can't believe he is two! We are so proud. He is the cutest, funniest little guy in the whole world.
The loot bags were a hit, too. For details, see this post.
Happy birthday, Ben!

  1. The dump trucks with snacks are brilliant. And your inlaw's backyard (and pool!) are gorgeous.

  2. Looks like fun!! Love the dump truck and cake

  3. The backyard looks lovely! The ambience and the pool make this a perfect place to hold casual and intimate birthday parties. This is the type of party where both kids and adults can just lay back and relax. I like how you simply put everything together, especially the toy dump truck idea. Thanks for sharing!
