A "Breakfast China" Tablescape

Today I'm going to show you a very quick and easy tablescape created for a leisurely weekend breakfast.
Earlier, I mentioned our breakfast china and showed you some other patterns that I think would make excellent breakfast dishes (see here or scroll down if you missed it).

Here is our simple little breakfast table all dressed up and ready for a nice casual meal.

I started with a gray tablecloth (that needs ironing, but we have yet to fix our iron...), inexpensive green laquer chargers and plain white dishes (purchased many years ago in a big set at Bed Bath and Beyond).
Then I added these little Martha Stewart for Wedgwood salad plates.
And our "breakfast china" - Villeroy and Boch's French Garden - "pasta" bowls (clearly not being used for pasta today).
And each setting is topped off with a Villeroy and Boch cereal bowl.

Since the table is small, today's centrepiece needed to be functional, so it consists simply of what we need for our morning tea. To give it a little height for some visual interest, I set it atop a matching cake stand (I found this at Century 21 in New York for $24 and find it so useful to have for serving or creating centrepieces).

The napkins are the same ones I used here. They are the Provence pattern from Williams-Sonoma.
The other thing you may notice, which is quite different for me, is that I've used our gold flatware. With a gray tablecloth silver seems like the more obvious choice. But I liked the unexpected contrast and pop the gold brings in and think it brings out the yellow in  the china.

And that completes this easy breakfast table, which took about ten minutes to set up. Hope you find time for a leisurely brunch this weekend!
