A Sneak Peek at Shannon's Home Mini-Makeover

Hi everyone,

I know I've told you that I am helping my sister Christine decorate her new house (I showed you the beginnings of that here and here), but did I tell you I also get to help my sister Shannon decorate her great apartment?

Shannon and Chris recently moved back to Toronto after living in Sydney, Australia for two years. We are still working on their pretty space, but a few changes in the way of rearranging art they had and mixing in some inexpensive new pieces from Home Sense, Canadian Tire and Ikea, have already made a major difference.

We're also adding in some cute accessories, like this pretty little red chippy box (about the size of a large shoe-box) to hide away remote controls and whatnot while keeping them in easy reach in the living room. We found this at Home Sense (no surprise there) for $14.99. Gosh, I do love storage boxes, don't I?

The place still needs some work so you'll have to stay tuned for the grand reveal, but here's a sneak peek showing you some of the artwork changes we've made. I'm a big fan of finding a set of two pictures that go together, and adding a complementary piece in between (yes, my decorating ways are extremely simple -- but that's what makes them easy to follow, I suppose!).

(Sorry for the not-so-great and not-at-all-staged pictures -- ignore what shouldn't be there, please)

Here is the before of the wall above the loveseat in the living room (the art is too small for the space and, though lovely, gets lost here. Oh, and that red pillow is being recovered...):

And here is one of two butterfly pics hanging on a wall near the dining room window. We moved this and matched it with the other one...

Mixed with a mirror, here is the new artwork arrangement above the loveseat.
(the bookshelf, couches, etc. still need to be styled).

The other place in the apartment that I used the "find a pair plus a complement" idea for artwork arrangements was above their bed. Shannon and Chris didn't have a headboard and the bedroom was off to a great start but needed sprucing up. We added some new artwork and a few pillows. (The corners are on the art in case Chris wasn't happy with it and we needed to return it -- luckily, when he came home he liked it, so these pieces are staying put, so just ignore the cardboard).

Here is the bedroom "before".

And here is the new artwork and decorative pillows (again, ignore the tags). Such an easy, quick and inexpensive way to freshen it up! (I wish I'd thought to fix it up for proper photos - you know, clear away cups and fluff pillows and turn on both lights and all that. Bad blogger.)

I did manage to snap a pic of one of the pieces of art up close. The rest of the details I'll show you real soon, I promise.

I'll be sharing all of the other details on the changes we make as we continue to perfect this great home very soon! Christine's house will be showcased soon, too. I've been under the weather so haven't been able to put the finishing touches on either, but soon it'll be all done!

Thanks for visiting and have a great night
